David

Lodge Manager, Virunga Lodge

David was born in Bushenyi, Uganda, and earned a Diploma in Marketing in Kampala before also being awarded a Diploma in Catering and Hotel Management in Kenya. He enjoys working with different communities and facing challenges. Working his way up since 2004, today he is the Manager of Virunga Lodge, Volcanoes’ flagship eco-luxury property near the Parc National des Volcans, the world-famous gorilla park in northern Rwanda. He recently came to London, leaving East Africa for the very first time, for a training program that saw him visit some of the finest hotels in the UK.

Lodge Manager, Kyambura Gorge Lodge

Habib is a professionally trained manager with previous experience as both the Operations Manager at the Akagera Game Lodge and as the Lodge Manager at Jacana Safari Lodge. He has been educated at the University of Nairobi and at the Kenya School of Professional Studies before also completing specialised hospitality training in Cape Town. He is a valued member of the Volcanoes team and has a keen interest in travelling, which led to his involvement in the tourism sector in the first place.

Amron

Lodge Manager, Mount Gahinga Lodge

Amron began working with Volcanoes Safaris in 2000 after having worked as a porter in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. He worked his way into housekeeping and continued his good work there, which led to his promotion first to Head of Housekeeping and Massage Services before eventually being indicated as the Lodge Manager. He was a keen athlete throughout his school career and his strong work ethic makes him a valuable and innovative part of the Volcanoes family.

Japheth

Lodge Manager, Bwindi Lodge

Japheth joined Volcanoes Safaris in 2007 after working at Ssese Palm Beach Resort. He studied at Matale Secondary School in Masaka where he was Head Prefect and capitalised on his enjoyment of sports, particularly football and netball, as the Sports Captain. He went on to study at the Tourism and Hotel Management Institute in Kabale and now works as Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge Manager.

Grison

Assistant Lodge Manager, Virunga Lodge

Grison was born in Kasese, Uganda and enjoyed a fruitful academic career culminating in a Diploma in Hotel and Institutional Catering. He has been part of the Volcanoes family since 2002 and has worked at Virunga, Mount Gahinga and Bwindi lodges before settling back where he started at Virunga, as the Assistant Manger. Here he looks after training the staff and catering for the guests. He particularly enjoys sharing his stories with Volcanoes guests.

Didas

Assistant Lodge Manager, Kyambura Gorge Lodge

Didas was born in Kamwezi, Kabale District in Uganda. He studied at St Paul's Secondary School before moving on to the Uganda College of Commerce in Kampala. Here he was awarded a certificate in Tourism and Hotel Management and an Institutional Catering certificate. He started working with Volcanoes at Virunga Lodge in 2006 as a waiter and barman before moving on to Kyambura Gorge Lodge where he currently works as Assistant Manager.

Nicole Simmons

VSPT Co-Ordinator, Kyambura Gorge

Nicole was born in the US and raised primarily in Minnesota. She received her Bachelors degree in communication and cultural studies at the University of Minnesota before pursuing graduate work in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the same institution. She moved to Uganda in 2006 to conduct field research on the chimpanzees living in Kyambura Gorge as part of a PhD study in zoology at Makerere University.  She has worked as the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust field projects coordinator since 2010.

Will Symes

VSPT Co-Ordinator, Mount Gahinga

Having worked for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in the UK as a conservation scientist, Will moved to Uganda to run a chimpanzee project in Semliki Wildlife reserve. Missing the constant rain of the UK, he decided to move to the Virunga mountains where he currently coordinates the VSPT activities around Mt Gahinga lodge, most of which are focused on the local Batwa Pygmies populations.
