Amon is originally from Kampala and has spent 10 years working as a safari guide, 8 of which with Volcanoes. With all his travelling, he is able to practice the almost unbelievable total of 12 languages that he speaks including Swahili, Luganda, Congolese, French and English!

Amon’s favourite place is Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which is home to the magnificent mountain gorillas. He regards the mountain gorilla as his favourite animal because of their closeness to humans. The most invigorating experience he had on safari was seeing a python kill and swallow a Ugandan kob! He had some Volcanoes guests with him and drove closer to give them a spectacular view of this rare event!

Moses is from the Wakiso District in Uganda, the area surrounding the capital, Kampala. He has been a guide for 24 years now, 13 of which he has spent working for Volcanoes. Moses speaks English and Swahili; he will be happy to teach you some useful Swahili words if you go on safari with him!

Kibale National Park is his favourite place in Uganda, mainly because he likes its thick forest, though he also thinks that the weather there is always nice! Chimpanzees are Moses’ favourite animals because he enjoys that they share so many of our own characteristics. His also enjoys visiting the tree-climbing lions in Ishasha. To him, it is the most unique thing to witness as these, along with their brothers in Tanzania, are the only lions in the world to climb trees!

Paul is Rwandan and has been a safari guide for 9 years, 7 of which with Volcanoes. Paul speaks French and English amongst other languages and his favourite animal is the elephant. He likes the thought that they must hold many interesting stories because they live so long! His most memorable encounter when on safari however was not with the elephants.

Paul vividly remembers seeing a silverback and a female "flirting" before the male pretended not to be interested. The female wandered out of his sight and started playing with another male to make the silverback jealous. When the silverback heard her grunts of delight as she played, he ran down to find out what the noise was about and, boy, was he jealous! 

Sam is from the Mbale District in Eastern Uganda. He has been a safari guide for 13 years, 11 of which he has spent working with Volcanoes Safaris. He speaks an impressive 10 languages and knows the landscape inside out. He particularly loves taking Volcanoes Safaris’ guests to see the chimpanzees in Kibale National Park and Kyambura Gorge. He finds chimps incredibly entertaining.  

He also likes QE National Park because of the variety of wildlife that you can spot within the park. It was there that he witnessed a buffalo chase away a pride of 12 lions, one of his many incredible safari memories that make fascinating stories on the road. 

Charles is from Uganda and has been a safari guide for 16 years, a handsome 9 years of which he has enjoyed with Volcanoes. Charles speaks 4 languages (English, Luganda, Runyankole and Swahili) and loves working with Volcanoes because of the chances to meet the rare gorillas as he finds their remarkably human behaviour fascinating.

His favourite location in Uganda is Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of the best bird-watching sites in the whole of Uganda. Although the rainforest is his favourite part of Uganda, his favourite safari memory was not gorilla tracking but when like Sam he witnessed a single buffalo bravely take on a pride of lions! Now that’s something worth seeing!

Moses was born in Uganda and speaks an impressive 10 languages. He has worked in the Volcanoes workshop as a mechanic for 4 years, until he was encouraged by the other Volcanoes guides to complete the necessary courses to become a guide. He took their advice and is now part of the Volcanoes guides team!

Outside work, Moses loves sports, in particular swimming, aerobics and football. His favorite teams are Arsenal and Uganda Cranes. His favourite place to take Volcanoes Safaris guests is Murchison Falls because it has the greatest density of wildlife in the region. Moses' favorite animal is the giraffe, which is one of the species that lives around Murchison Falls.

Francis grew up in Masaka, a town that sits to the west of Kampala and he has been a guide for over 20 years. He has experienced some amazing things whilst working as a guide; you should really ask him to tell you a few stories from his safaris! Like all of Volcanoes Safaris’ guides, Francis speaks a number of languages including English, Swahili, Kinyarwanda and Luganda. 

Francis’ favourite place to take Volcanoes guests is Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. He has often seen the gorillas hanging around Bwindi Lodge and eating the lush vegetation that surround the bandas. Francis not only loves gorillas but he also has a great respect for the elusive leopards that he tries to spot when in QE National Park and Murchison Falls. 

Vincent is from the Bushenyi District in Western Uganda, which is home to over 50% of QE National Park. Despite growing up in this magnificent area, Vincent prefers the towering Virunga Mountains covered in rich, green rainforest and home to the mighty mountain gorillas. He has been a guide for 10 years now, 8 of which with Volcanoes Safaris.

He loves how mountain gorillas seem to care for each other like humans do. Although he can’t speak gorilla, Vincent speaks 5 languages (English, Runyankole, Luganda, Kinyarwanda and Swahili), which he is able to practice when on safari. His most precious memory is when he escorted a rather incredible safari taking a visually impaired guest to visit the mountain gorillas. 

Moses is Ugandan-born and speaks a grand total of 6 languages: Runyankole, Swahili, Luganda, Kinyarwanda, Rutoro and English! He has been working as a safari guide for 10 years and joined the Volcanoes Safari team 4 years ago.

Moses says that his favourite part of Uganda is Kibale Forest where Volcanoes Safaris takes a number of guests to track the chimpanzees. Moses singles out the chimp as his favourite animal species because of their fascinating facial expressions. Some of his most memorable safari moments have been watching chimpanzees playing, squabbling and misbehaving! 

John is originally from Western Uganda, which is still his favourite part in the country and QE National Park is especially close to his heart. John is an extremely experienced guide, which is due in no small part to the fact that he has been a safari guide for over 20 years, 12 of which with Volcanoes. He speaks 5 languages; Runyankole, Rutoro, Rukiga, Swahili and English, and enjoys talking to the various locals around his native Uganda. 

John’s favourite animal is the leopard; although they’re hard to spot he considers them the most beautiful animals in the world and he loves the way they behave when hunting. His most exciting experience on safari was when he saw a leopard feeding calmly up a tree whilst lions watched helplessly from below!
