Women’s economic empowerment and development have been shown effective in improving standards of living at both the household and the community level. The Batwa Women’s Center will help give indigenous Batwa women a common voice and pave a way to develop their untapped potential, enhancing their lives and those of their families. The center is unique in being built for an indigenous women’s group based on their input and with their participation.
Culture is an integral part of every society. The Batwa Experience is a cultural site and living history encounter located just outside the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which allows us a glimpse into the history of indigenous life in the rainforest.
Volcanoes run programs with the Batwa in Mount Gahinga Lodge where guests can experience the lives of the Batwa first hand by walking the Batwa Trail, guided by the elders and being shown the secrets of the forest, by watching one of the batwa dance performances or a number of other activities.
The VSPT support for the Batwa is strong as well, with a great deal of effort being put in to making their efforts to retain their traditional way of life a successful endeavour. For more information on philanthropic projects involving the Batwa or for details of the ways in which you can experience their unique culture, contact a member of our Ugandan team about going on one of our luxury safari tours.
