100 Days. That’s’ how long it is said the Rwandan genocide lasted in 1994. The death of the then President in a plane crash in April 1994 unleashed the genocide in which hundreds of thousands Rwandans are thought to have been killed and nearly twice as many fled into exile.

In 2012 however it’s hard to think about Kigali as a city that has suffered less than 20 years ago: it’s clean, it’s safe and…you have to wear a helmet when you go on a motorbike?! That doesn’t even happen in Rome!

To set the tone for my journey I decided to visit the genocide memorial. Indeed no matter how incredibly quickly Rwanda has moved on, its good to learn from the terrible events and be humbled by the progress made since then. A trip to the memorial is definitely recommended.

Thanks for remembering and for reminding all of us of what what lost. I find myself thinking, what can I do for 100 days that models the compassion and love that the whole world needs for tomorrow?
