The Sculpture Gallery is located an hour’s drive away from Volcanoes Kyambura Gorge Lodge, at the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in a stunning architect-designed building overlooking the Mobuku valley. The project currently has some impressive sponsors, including the Tate Gallery in London, the Royal Academy as well as artistic giant Damien Hirst, who donated a sculpture that sold for £313,250 to help with construction costs.
The Gallery’s current exhibition is showing a selection of work from local artists at the adjacent bronze foundry, including some beautiful pieces of art from the team of African founders and European sculptors. Some of the pieces are available for sale and some artists are willing to work to order.
The foundry is central Africa’s first and is a magnificent addition to the community and local area. Originally commissioned by the Rwenzori Sculpture Foundation, a British charity that works to enhance sculpture in Uganda and Africa as a whole, it is now going from strength to strength, as is evidenced in the quality and quantity of work at the exhibition.
Visiting the Gallery is by appointment only and can be arranged as part of your safari to Kyambura Gorge Lodge. If you would like more information on the gallery and a visit to Uganda, contact a member of our sales team.
