Kibale, Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi

A 7 day private safari which starts and finishes in Entebbe (1 Bwindi gorilla tracking permit is included in the cost)

This safari flies you from Entebbe to Kasese and on to Kibale Forest which has thirteen species of primates including the chimpanzee, the vervet monkey and the red colobus. Tracking the noisy chimpanzee families racing through this verdant forest is a thrilling experience. Together with Bigodi Wetland nearby, many forest and swamp birds can be seen. On the savannah plains below the Rwenzoris, see the great game of Africa in the magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park – elephant, lion, buffalo, hippo and leopard. Track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge nearby. Around Ishasha go on the hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees. Then continue on to track one of the three habituated gorilla families in the primeval forest of Bwindi. Go for nature walks in search of the many birds, monkeys, butterflies and orchids or alternatively go for short strolls around the Lodge and explore the village. Fly back to Entebbe.

On safari clients stay 2 nights at Ndali/Mantana Kibale, 2 nights at Mweya/Jacana and 2 nights at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge.

Day 1
Fly to Kasese, be met by a Volcanoes guide and drive to your Lodge, two hours away. Lunch at the Lodge. Relax at lodge or explore nearby crater lake. O/N: Ndali/Mantana Kibale (FB).

Day 2
Track the noisy chimps and other primates crashing around through the high canopy of the forest with colourful birds squawking nearby. Packed lunch. Afternoon walk in Bigodi to see swamp birds. The tourism and conservation activities in Bigodi wetland have helped build a number of community projects including a local library and a new secondary school.
O/N: Ndali/Mantana Kibale (FB).

Day 3
Either a day’s walk in the foothills of the Rwenzoris, one of the great mountain ranges of the world, looking out for its forbidding peaks in the distance, or drive straight to QE. The game drives depend on the season. The Kasenyi plains support large concentrations of game especially lion. The
area around the seven crater lakes in the northern hills are very scenic but game viewing is erratic. The Mweya peninsula is usually good to see the large mammals, bushbuck, waterbuck, and elephant, as well as the unusual giant forest hog. Leopard may also be seen in this area. O/N: Mweya/Jacana
(FB).

Day 4
An excursion to Kyambura gorge nearby to track the fast moving elusive chimpanzees, one of man's closest relations. The chimp population is quite mobile and viewing is unpredictable. The walk in this "lost world" is nevertheless enchanting, or visit the tropical Bee Care Centre to look at their range of community projects from bee keeping, honey making to the community nursery for children. Alternatively go for a nature walk in Maramagambo Forest. This forest harbours some unusual species - red-tailed and L’Hoest’s Monkey, potto, giant forest hog, pygmy antelope, and giant elephant shrew. You can also visit the bat caves and the blue lake. In the afternoon a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel which is especially rewarding for viewing a variety of game, especially hippo, buffalo, elephant and a vast array of birds. O/N: Mweya/Jacana (FB).

Day 5
Start for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Either drive via Ishasha, home of the tree climbing lion, roads permitting, or take the alternative route through cultivated expanses. Time permitting, go for a guided nature walk in the thick forest rich in birds, butterflies and primates. O/N: Volcanoes
Bwindi Lodge (FB).

Day 6
Go gorilla tracking, walking up steep densely forested hills (subject to permit availability at time of booking). In this thick and humid forest you almost have to cut your way through the undergrowth but finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring
moment. Tracking in Bwindi requires stamina and can often take most of the day. O/N: Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge (FB).

Day 7
Go for an early morning nature walk. Drive to Kayonza airstrip for your charter flight back to Entebbe.

An extra night and an extra gorilla pemit can be added by paying a supplement at the time of booking.
