The Batwa are one of the indigenous tribes who until the creation of the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park lived in the forest as hunter-gatherers. Forced out of their ancestral home they became marginalized members of the local community, struggling to adapt to the modern way of life. Now they are working with Volcanoes to share their history and their culture not only with you but with the local community as well. There are a wide range of activities that you can do with the Batwa to connect with their ancient heritage, one of the oldest surviving traditions in Africa. The heritage experience, dance performance and community walk can all be scheduled around you and you can visit their local Vocational Centre at will.
