Honeymoon Contest Winners Announced!

After hundreds of entries and several thousand retweets we have finally chosen a winning couple for our much anticipated honeymoon contest!

Arjun Ohri and Ami Dalal are the lucky winners selected at random to win a luxury safari at Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Uganda. The newlyweds will spend four fabulous days at the idyllic lodge that marries traditional African design with western sensibilities on the site of an old coffee processing plant, situated at the edge of the breathtaking Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day one includes a relaxing drive to the lodge, a trip to the royal drum makers and dinner overlooking the amazing Rwenzori Mountains. Days two and three will see the pair take in the extraordinary savannahs as they track lion, hippo, leopard, chimpanzee, elephant, buffalo and dozens of wild birds - the scenery is breathtaking and the wildlife truly enchanting. Day four allows for more cultural visits and shopping at traditional roadside markets.

Ami and Arjun were on their Tuscan honeymoon in Italy when they received news of their fantastic win.

"We entered the honeymoon contest because we were, quite simply, looking for our honeymoon destination! Ironically, we received the email that we'd won on our honeymoon itself -while in the Tuscan countryside! We still feel like honeymooners, so we cannot wait to join Volcanoes Safaris to renew our honeymoon vows."

The pair recently held a lavish Indian wedding in the summer and as well as becoming a happily married couple have also moved to a new home so the honeymoon prize was the icing on the cake.

Ami says they have always wanted to go on an African safari, so when the opportunity of a luxury honeymoon safari arose, the newlyweds jumped at the chance.  Unlike their Tuscan honeymoon a luxury safari with Volcanoes offered in their words “total immersion in a completely foreign environment” and a chance to avoid the typical tourist haunts of Europe.

They also knew a safari with Volcanoes meant they would be in trusted hands and could expect a fully immersive experience from the award-winning safari operator.

Safari Activities

Chimpanzee Tracking

Tracking chimpanzees in their natural habitat, as they swing from the branches in the canopy high above the forest floor is nothing short of exhilarating. The chimps effortlessly cross and scamper through the trees above the gorge, and visitors on the other hand must cross the river using natural bridges in order to keep up with the chimps. So although the walk usually lasts only 2–3 hours, descending the steep gorge and crossing the log bridges over the river requires some agility and fitness.

Chimpanzee tracking is also available in nearby Kalinzu, a forest reserve 30 minutes drive from Kyambura Gorge Lodge where there is a community of about 40 habituated chimpanzees.
