Lions Return to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda

Investigation of lion sightings by ranchers and aid workers have revealed that a family of lions have returned to Lake Mburo National Park.

Lions have been extinct there for over a decade due to poaching, however following the reported sightings lion researcher Dr Ludwig Siefart, attached to Makarrere University, has been able to verify this exciting discovery.

An adult male lion and at least one female, believed to have two cubs are currently living in this prey-rich habitat. Following discussions with top officials at the Uganda Wildlife Authority, Dr Siefart has been assigned to explore the possibilities of fitting at least one of these lions with a radio collar, in order to monitor its movements and help reduce or prevent it coming into contact with local communities and livestock.

The possibility of relocating the lions to another park has been ruled out and it is hoped that Lake Mburo can remain their home.
