Volcanoes are delighted to announce a new baby has been born to the chimp community in Kyambura Gorge!

Emiti, one of the adult females, gave birth to her 3rd baby a couple of weeks ago. Our chimp researcher Nicole is especially delighted that the new baby is a girl, who is unoffically named Enyanja. This brings the total chimp population in the Kyambura Gorge troop to 21.

This is very encouraging news for the Volcanoes Kyambura Gorge Ecotourism Partnership Project, our major long term eco-tourism partnership project, which links the new Volcanoes eco-lodge, Volcanoes Kyambura Gorge Lodge (opening soon!), to the community promoting the conservation of chimpanzees through tourism, and creating a buffer zone in the area around the gorge to help protect the habitat for chimpanzees.  Supported by the Volcanoes Trust the Project is setting up a number of sustainable community projects which will help ensure local people earn a stake from eco-tourism in the area.
