Uganda Gorilla Vet Wins an Award from a Charity Backed by Sir David Attenborough

Dr Gladys Kalema, a Ugandan gorilla vet has won a Whitley Gold prize for her work helping to protect gorillas and humans living around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The prize, awarded by the Whitely Fund for Nature which is backed by David Attenborough and the Princess Royal, rewards projects helping communities and wildlife around the world. Dr Kalema's project not only treats sick gorillas but helps to reduce the risk of cross-infection between apes and people, while allowing villagers to benefit from increased gorilla tourism.
