Volcanoes Safaris do not just offer safaris but aim to create a unique great ape experience for clients.
Volcanoes specializes in mountain gorilla safaris to Uganda and Rwanda, and was founded in 1997. No other company in the world has invested so heavily in the area around the mountain gorilla parks or has its own properties at three gorilla parks. Over the last decade, we have taken over 5,000 clients on gorilla safaris and we currently employ over 100 people globally. This exceptional track record makes Volcanoes Safaris the No. 1 Gorilla Safari Company and the only safari company that is signatory to the Kinshasa Declaration of 2005 on Saving the Great Apes. Volcanoes visionary approach to great ape ecotourism gives clients a special insight into the complex gorilla-human world. Our environmentally sensitive eco-lodges respect the fragility of the surrounding area, the culture of local communities and empower local people to manage the properties.
The ‘Volcanoes family’ are committed to ensuring that clients have a distinctive and memorable experience. Clients who choose to do a safari with Volcanoes can travel with the assurance that we will do our best to ensure that their holiday runs smoothly, backed up by our global network of offices as well the security of insurance cover for evacuation and consumer protection. Our prices reflect the challenges of working in post-conflict countries, the high development and running costs and the continued improvement we make in our lodges, vehicles and staff training program. Clients are full of praise for the quality of the services we provide and the care and courtesy of our staff.
Some companies charge a low initial price for basic activities and then charge for extra services later or other unforeseen factors. Volcanoes approach is the reverse; we deliberately charge on an all-inclusive basis at the outset so that, as far as possible all costs for an agreed safari itinerary are fully covered. Clients’ only extra expenditure is for personal items or items like alcohol at non-Volcanoes lodges. Our prices may therefore appear higher than other companies but they are all-inclusive, include more activities, are more flexible and have the safety of international back-up and insurance cover. Quotations from other companies therefore need to be carefully compared. The safari price therefore covers not only the components of a specific itinerary but these other costs and it is not therefore possible to give an easy breakdown of the different components of a safari.
Prices INCLUDE transport and a driver/guide for the itinerary agreed, accommodation on a shared basis and meals as stated (in Kampala, Entebbe and Kigali bed and breakfast only and on safari full board) and, where appropriate, boat trips, park fees, one chimpanzee and one gorilla permit. At Volcanoes lodges, the tariffs are on an all-inclusive basis and in addition to accommodation and meals, include unlimited consumption of all alcoholic and soft drinks; laundry services and any activities clients wish to do around the lodges. A complimentary massage is also offered. From the safari price paid by clients Volcanoes contributes $100 per client to the Volcanoes Partnership Trust, a separate non-profit organization which undertakes community and conservation activities.
Prices EXCLUDE airfares to Uganda/Rwanda, entry visas and airport taxes. At non-Volcanoes lodges all personal expenditure such as tips, telephone calls, laundry and drinks are excluded. For single rooms, a supplement (SRS) needs to be paid.
We hope this explains the basis of our pricing policy and look forward to taking you on safari!
