7-day Gorillas in Rwanda, Chimps and Wildlife in Uganda

This fantastic safari begins by being welcomed in Kigali by the guide that will accompany you for the rest of your stay. You’re taken straight to the Virunga Lodge through the beautiful terraced hills that are common throughout Rwanda’s landscape. The lodge sits near the imposing Virunga Mountain Range, giving you a splendid view of the five peaks. The following morning will be spent gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans, concentrating in the light mountain forest on the slopes of the mountains. Once you’ve found the gorillas you can stay in their company for an hour before taking a late lunch and returning to the lodge for an evening of optional activities.

You then have another day in the Virunga lodge to spend either tracking again if you have an additional permit or by engaging in any of the varied and various activities and excursions that are based at the lodge. The following day sees you continue your journey up to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda where the scenery is very different indeed. The Western Rift Valley is home to our Kyambura Gorge Lodge, where you can relax in the swimming pool for the afternoon before indulging in a game drive through the park in the evening. What you see depends on the season but there is plenty out there in both the morning and the evening.

The rest of our stay is spent in the high-class Kyambura Gorge Lodge, where the myriad activities will be sure to keep you enthralled until you leave on the seventh day, heading to Kampala. On the way to the city there is one more stop to make before you fly home and that’s the equator, where you can stand in both the northern and southern hemispheres at once before saying goodbye to your companion guide and flying home again.

12-day Uganda and Rwanda

The 12-day safari through Uganda and Rwanda affords you numerous opportunities to experience the unique beauty of both the countries you’re visiting and the people who live there. Starting in Kampala you will be taken to our luxury Kyambura Gorge Lodge near the Queen Elizabeth National Park where you can enjoy game drives through the savannahs in either the morning or the evening. Also available to you in this diverse region is the birding, which is among the richest in the whole continent. Passing the equator on the way down, you can visit the Mweya Peninsula or the Kazinga Channel, where you can take a boat ride to encounter the wildlife there.

Travelling down to the Bwindi Lodge will see you staying on the outskirts of the Impenetrable Forest, where you’ll be able to track gorillas through the immersive rainforest and visit the local Batwa pigmies and discover the traditions of this remarkable culture. Continuing on to the Mount Gahinga Lodge will take you into the realm of the Golden Monkeys who can be tracked here. You can also endeavour to hike up one of the nearby volcanoes for a further sense of achievement and the reward of spectacular views.

The final leg of your journey sees you cross the border into Rwanda to the Virunga Lodge, where you can track gorillas for a rewarding day through the Parc National des Volcans to return to the lodge that evening for a performance from the Intore Dance Troupe, displaying their traditional dance. The last few days can be spent enjoying any one of the activities and excursions on offer at Virunga before you’re taken to Kigali in time for your flight home.

4-day Rwandan Safari Package

Four days in Rwanda will prove to be an enchanting experience. You will be welcomed in Kigali by your Volcanoes Guide and taken directly to the luxury accommodation at the Virunga lodge in the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. When you arrive at the lodge you can take part in any number of activities that have been arranged for you or you can simply relax, perhaps by enjoying a massage to welcome you properly to this wonderful country. The Intore Dancers will conclude the welcome party, offering a nightly display of their traditional victory dance as the sun sets around the idyllic lodge.

The following day you’ll track the gorillas from dawn in the Parc National des Volcans, a lush and verdant forest surrounding the Virunga Mountains. This enchanting forest is home to six gorilla families and you can spend all day exploring the immersive tracks and trails until you find them. You can spend a full hour with the gorillas before you’re guided back to the lodge for a full meal and rest. Other options for the Virunga area include tracking the Golden Monkeys, an endangered species of primate that are harder to find.

You can then choose to relax on the shores of Lake Kivu, visit the memorial to Dian Fossey and her favourite gorilla, Digit, or any of the other things on offer. Your final day will be rounded off with your guide taking you back to Kigali, where you can choose to take a tour of the city or go straight to the airport and home.
