Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust

...enhancing the livelihood of local communities through great ape eco-tourism

The Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust (VSPT) is a non-profit organisation that undertakes specific community and conservation activities in and around the Volcanoes Safaris Lodges.  The VSPT seeks to support specific activities that enhance the livelihood of local communities and in turn support the survival of the great apes.

The objectives of the VSPT are achieved through regular donations from Volcanoes Safaris Ltd, who contribute a voluntary donation of $100 from every full-cost safari purchased. This money is used to implement and support projects that focus on the communities around VS lodges and conservation of vulnerable habitats and endangered species.

Uganda - the VSPT has established a series of projects in Uganda designed to link community to conservation.  The aim is to promote sustainable eco-tourism in the region and help members of the local community effectively manage local resources.

On the western boundary of Queen Elizabeth National Park the VSPT has rehabilitated a former brick works to a verdant 30-acre wetland that now attracts more than a hundred species of bird.  Similarly it has established a 15km buffer zone along the northern ridge of Kyambura Gorge, the geographical centre of the Greater Virunga landscape and one of the most important areas for avian, primate and wildlife biodiversity in Africa.

Rwanda - the VSPT has worked extensively in education and cultural heritage in Rwanda, supporting the Mwiko Primary School and the Intore Dance Troupe, one of the finest examples of Rwandese traditional dance and music in the country.
