Akagera National Park to Welcome 70 White Rhinos from South Africa

Akagera National Park will welcome 70 white rhinos from South Africa this month, making this the largest rhino translocation in Rwanda. This follows the reintroduction of 30 rhinos in 2021 to the same park. The transfer involves a journey of 3,400 kilometers, aims to increase the rhino population and establish a strong breeding hub. This translocation will enhance Rwanda's biodiversity, attract high-value wildlife tourism, protect the species, and support the development of Akagera National Park as an internationally recognized sanctuary for both black and white rhinos.
