Launch of Mountain Gorilla and Inaugural Chimpanzee Census in the Bwindi-Sarawabi Ecosystems
The Uganda Wildlife Authority has launched the mountain gorilla and inaugural chimpanzee census in the Bwindi-Sarawabi ecosystems.
The census is in collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature, the International Gorilla Conservation Programme, Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration, the Jane Goodall Institute, Gorilla Doctors, Conservation Through Public Health, the Rwanda Development Board, and other conservation partners.
The gorilla population is currently 1,063.
The new census will provide updated population figures, information on demographics and feeding habits, changes in habitat and will
evaluate the success of past conservation efforts.
Thank you to all the conservation partners who are participating and contributing to this census.
