13 December 2023
Praveen Moman, Founder of Volcanoes Safaris, addressed the UN Great Apes Survival Program (GRASP) Council meeting at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.
Delegates speaking at GRASP Council meeting also included Gladys Kalema (Founder of Conservation Through Public Health) and Ian Redmond (Ape Alliance and The Gorilla Organisation).
Background GRASP was launched in 2001 by the UN Environment to help ensure the long-term survival of gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos and orangutans and their habitat in Africa and Asia. GRASP is a unique alliance of national governments, research institutions, United Nations agencies, conservation organisations, and private sector actors which provide a coordinated response to address habitat loss and population declines. The 3rd GRASP Council Meeting took place from the 11th-14th December 2023 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. The meeting included developing a new business model for the partnership, electing the new Executive Committee, revising elements of the rules and regulations of GRASP’s mandate, and updating the global strategy for great ape conservation.
