Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust Appeal for Our Conservation and Community Projects

This holiday season we are reaching out to request your assistance for vital community and conservation projects that Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust supports near our lodges in Uganda and Rwanda. In partnership with Empowers Africa, contributions from US residents are tax-deductible.

Support Needed

• Bwindi Bar Youth Hospitality Training Program – support from $2,500

Bwindi Bar provides practical hospitality training for local disadvantaged youths living near Bwindi National Park. 

$2,500 you can sponsor 4 trainees for a 3-month hospitality training program.

• Gahinga Batwa Village– support from $5,000

In 1991 the Batwa, an indigenous community, were removed from the Mgahinga area to create a national park for gorillas. In 2018 VSPT built a permanent village for 18 Batwa families, together with a community centre and land for agricultural and recreational use.

$5,000 will support education for adults and children for one year. $25,000 will provide medical support for the village for one year. $100,000 can purchase land to expand the village with 20 new homes.

• Virunga Lodge Carpentry & Tailoring Training Centre– support from $45,000

 In 2024, we plan to build a vocational centre near Virunga Lodge which will provide practical training and apprenticeships in carpentry and tailoring to young people living nearby. $90,000 will cover the design and construction and all operational set-up costs of the centre for one year. We will match fund 50% of the cost.

• Kyambura Gorge Lion Monitoring  – support from $3,000

 The Lion Monitoring Project at Kyambura Gorge Lodge collects data for African lion, leopard and spotted hyena using a network of vehicles and remote camera traps. The project is aiming to create a conservation program which supports the protection of Uganda’s carnivore populations, train young people in science-based wildlife monitoring, and improves the livelihoods of local communities. $3,000 will support two local field staff to join the team for one year. $10,000 will provide 100 camera traps for the annual survey. $50,000 will support all operational costs of this project.
