Voluntorism

Volcanoes Safaris introduces Voluntorism activities. Volcanoes Safaris are introducing a series of “Intro into Voluntourism” day-long activities, run by the Volcanoes Safaris Partnership Trust. The new activities will allow visitors the opportunity to book a community or conservation based safari. We are offering two new programs that will be running at Kyambura Gorge lodge and Mount Gahinga lodge for those looking for the traditional comforts of a Volcanoes Safaris experience, but the satisfaction of helping the community by participating in hands-on activities. These activities are available to all guests, and do not require a specific skill set - just a lot of passion and an open mind. Kyambura Gorge lodge: Bird counts in the Omumashaka Wetland Project.

Help us monitor bird immigration and migration while contributing to wetland restoration efforts. You may also serve to participate in training activities for community guides. Mount Gahinga lodge: Craft making with the Batwa Come knit and sew with the Batwa while helping us raise money for a Batwa Daycare! The Batwa, historically known as “pygmies”, are thought to one of the oldest surviving people of the Central African Region. Traditionally forest dwellers, they survived by hunting, gathering and seeking shelter in caves. Guests will learn more about their culture and history at a newly developed cultural heritage site at the lodge.
Each of the listed activities will cost $50 and take a full day on safari. Information on these activities as well as the aims of the 'Intro to Voluntourism' initiative are live on the website in the VSPT Non-Profit section.
